This weekend Kev, Chris, Megan and I went up to PSU for the Purdue game. Long story short since not everyone reading this is a football fan: Purdue wanted to win the game a little less than PSU and we came away with a 26-19 victory. Highlights: I purchased a parking pass off of Stub Hub and we wound up with awesome parking in the Letterman's area. Close to the stadium and on the blacktop. Nice. 97% of the stadium was in the sun. We were part of the 3% in the shade. Not nice. The pre-game festivities were good -we missed the announcement of the Seniors (we'll miss Dan Connor, we won't miss #14), but caught the band's pre-game show. After PSU gave up a kick off return to go behind 7-0 things settled down. We lost the lead two more times, but with they typical "bend but don't break" defense, we pulled out the victory. We're on our way to our typical 9-3 mediocre season and what is becoming our "home away from home", The Outback Bowl in Tampa....providing we don't choke against Michigan State on 11/17.
Some observations:
They moved the band in Beaver Stadium from over the tunnel to the south east corner of the end zone (student section) - you can barely hear them on the other side of south end zone. From what I've heard, it's not much better on the east side of the stadium. Rumor has it the move was made so that TV mics will pick up the music better. Of course with all of the music blaring over the PA, the band doesn't even play that much anymore anyway. That stinks.
I did like that the students threw the girls up (like the old Lion blanket toss) in the stands every time we scored. It looked awesome. I would have liked that tradition back when we were there!
By the way, what ever happened to the Lion blanket toss? And why doesn't the Lion do push ups anymore? Are the Lions of the 21st century just soft?
Pictures will be posted tonight.
